OpenTalk pursues CC-EAL4 certification

Berlin, November 2, 2023 - OpenTalk, the Berlin-based provider of secure video conferencing, has initiated the certification process for CC-EAL4 by the German BSI (Federal Office for Information Security). With this move, OpenTalk is embarking on a rigorous evaluation process aimed at confirming the reliability and security of the OpenTalk Secure Server. OpenTalk once again recommends itself as a digitally sovereign video conferencing solution for use in security-sensitive areas for businesses or the public sector.

The certification process according to CC-EAL (Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level), as defined by ISO 15408, establishes clear requirements for IT security assessments. The higher the EAL level, the more comprehensive the requirements for the scope, depth, and methods of testing. CC-EAL4 is already exceptionally demanding and in-depth.

For the EAL4 certification of the OpenTalk Secure Server, an independent testing laboratory will analyze not only the source code but also the development environment of the OpenTalk Secure Server for possible vulnerabilities. This ensures the trustworthiness and high quality of the source code and security features for use in sensitive areas.

"With CC-EAL4 certification, the OpenTalk Secure Server would be the only open-source video conferencing solution at such a high level of security. This means verified security 'Made in Germany' for trusted and protected communication for businesses and government agencies. US cloud providers with closed source code and without CC-EAL4 cannot offer this," says Peer Heinlein, Founder and CEO of OpenTalk.
