Schleswig-Holstein relies on OpenTalk throughout the state
With a focus on open source, data protection, and digital sovereignty, Schleswig-Holstein is introducing OpenTalk as a future-proof video conferencing solution in its state administration.
Digital sovereignty as a guiding principle
The statewide introduction of OpenTalk in all Schleswig-Holstein government agencies marks a strategic step toward greater digital independence in the public sector. Following a successful pilot phase, the decision was made to roll out the solution across the board—a further commitment to the consistent use of open source technologies that is in line with the state's open source strategy. By the end of 2025, around 2,000 state administration employees will be working with OpenTalk as a sovereign alternative to international platforms.
Functions for administrative needs
In addition to its open source basis and full GDPR compliance, OpenTalk impressed with features specifically tailored to the requirements of public administrations. These include audit-proof coordination, barrier-free use in accordance with BITV 2.0, and seamless integration into existing administrative networks and specialist procedures.
The system is operated in the BSI-certified Twin Data Center (TDC), ensuring that all communication data remains in a sovereign, highly secure infrastructure.
A pioneering role with a signal effect
With its decision to use OpenTalk, Schleswig-Holstein is once again taking a pioneering role in the digital transformation of public administration.
The introduction sends a clear signal beyond the state borders: secure, proven, and adaptable video conferencing solutions from Germany are now available—developed and operated under European license conditions and with a view to the special requirements of the public sector.
We are delighted that OpenTalk is now the video conferencing solution for state authorities in two federal states. Thuringia and Schleswig-Holstein are leading the way toward greater digital independence, and we are proud to be part of it.
