Popout Media Streams and LiveKit: OpenTalk 25.0.1

Popout media streams: More freedom for participants
One of the new features allows media streams to be detached from the main conference page. With a simple click on the new button in the video image, the stream opens in a separate tab or window.
The advantages of popout media streams:
- Better organisation: Users can view the presentation on one screen while keeping the grid view of the conference on another screen.
- Customisation: The windows can be moved and positioned flexibly, making multitasking easier.
- Optimal overview: Particularly helpful for conferences with extensive content or multiple speakers.
Migrating to LiveKit: Improved stability and performance
With this release, LiveKit is introduced as the new media server, replacing Janus.
Benefits of migrating:
- Stable media connections: Migrating to LiveKit will significantly improve the stability of audio and video connections, even in challenging network situations.
- Future-proof: LiveKit's modern infrastructure lays the foundation for future features such as end-to-end encryption.
- Flexibility and transparency: LiveKit optimally adapts to the requirements of secure and transparent video communication.
Changing the background image from a selection
OpenTalk users now have the option to change the background image from a selection. This allows meetings to be personalised – a feature that many users have requested.
Known bugs: Creation of the participation report not possible
In the current release of OpenTalk, an error has occurred that affects the creation of an attendance report. The menu shows the entry ‘Export attendance report’. However, this function is not yet available for our cloud service and the menu field is therefore not functional. In addition, in some cases, connectivity issues may occur when breakout rooms start or end. In this case, participants will need to reconnect to the conference. We are already working on a solution and apologise for any inconvenience.
The latest update also includes the improvements from version 24.13.0. All information about these is available in the post announcing the switch to LiveKit.
A complete overview of all features and bug fixes is available in the technical release notes.
