OpenTalk 24.13.0: New Features and LiveKit Announcement
The latest OpenTalk update 24.13.0 brings improvements and innovations that increase the user-friendliness and accessibility of the platform and are geared to the growing demands of modern work environments.
Improved usability and accessibility
The optimizations include dynamic tab titles that adjust the content of the browser tab accordingly. This makes it easier for users to keep track of multiple open OpenTalk tabs. A checkmark icon has also been added to the layout menu to indicate the currently selected layout, providing quick orientation.
Users are now informed when their names are changed by moderators, which promotes transparency and clarity in the meeting. In addition, newly added tooltips in the lobby and additional ARIA attributes for screen readers ensure better accessibility and user guidance. For more clarity in the voting tool, users receive direct notifications in the event of invalid results, and users who have already been muted are not asked again to activate their microphone when they are given permission to speak – this helps to ensure an undisturbed conversation environment.
New features for organizers
A new feature for generating attendance reports has been added, providing organizers with a detailed overview of the participants in their meetings. This feature supports meeting follow-up and improves documentation.
Bug fixes
The 24.13.0 update also includes technical fixes: avatars are now displayed correctly for each participant, the contrast of the red color in the conference view has been improved, and screen sharing only occurs when a video call is active. In addition, it is now possible to invite multiple participants to a meeting at the same time without any problems.
Technology update: switching from Janus to LiveKit
With version 24.13.0, OpenTalk will use the Janus WebRTC media server for the last time. We will also make this change visible through our numbering. Starting with the next version, 24.21.0, OpenTalk will switch to LiveKit as the technology for real-time communication. This change lays the foundation for future features and improvements such as end-to-end encryption. The LiveKit integration means that OpenTalk is now based on a modern, flexible infrastructure that is optimally tailored to the needs of secure, transparent video communication.
