Strong dual leadership – Heinlein Group gains strategic reinforcement with Jutta Horstmann

Digital sovereignty is not an abstract vision of the future, but an urgent prerequisite for Europe's ability to act. Those who retain control over their digital infrastructure not only ensure data sovereignty and security, but also innovation and independence.
With the appointment of Jutta Horstmann as Co-CEO, the Heinlein Group is sending a clear signal: expanding technological resilience and designing an open, secure communications infrastructure for Germany and Europe are at the top of our agenda.
Strategic leadership for a sovereign future
Digital sovereignty requires not only technical solutions, but also strategic leadership. With the new dual leadership of our founder and managing director Peer Heinlein and Jutta Horstmann, the Heinlein Group brings together two personalities who not only represent autonomy, transparency, and responsibility, but have also been actively shaping them for decades.
The combination of entrepreneurial experience, deep technical expertise, and a clear value-oriented vision creates the foundation for securing Europe's digital infrastructure in the long term.
Experience that shapes change
Jutta Horstmann brings extensive experience from leadership roles in international technology companies, public-interest organizations, and the open-source community. As former managing director of the Center for Digital Sovereignty (ZenDiS) and previously as COO/CTO of eyeo (Adblock Plus), she has transformed complex structures, scaled teams, and set a new technological course.
This expertise is crucial not only for optimizing existing solutions, but also for building new, independent technology stacks for Europe.
Open source as the foundation of digital resilience
For over 30 years, the Heinlein Group has stood for open, secure, and sovereign technologies – from mailbox to OpenTalk to OpenCloud. Open source is the foundation for transparency, interoperability, and sustainable innovation.
With the new co-CEO, this course will be further strengthened. The goal is to provide public institutions, companies, and civil society with solutions that reduce critical dependencies while meeting the highest security and data protection standards.
Taking responsibility for Europe
Digital sovereignty does not end at national borders. The Heinlein Group sees its role as part of a European movement working toward an open, secure, and trustworthy technology stack—in line with initiatives such as EuroStack and DeutschlandStack.
With the expanded management team, this mission will be pursued even more vigorously. The result will be an infrastructure that meets the needs of an open, democratic, and resilient society.
Working together for secure, free communication
With Jutta Horstmann at Peer Heinlein's side, the Heinlein Group is further expanding its position as a shaper of an independent, secure, and open digital future. The company already supplies key building blocks for a sovereign infrastructure – and is sending a clear signal that it will continue to pursue this mission consistently.
