OpenTalk and ECOS Technology: Partnership for highly secure video conferencing

Partnerschaft ecos

Video conferencing has become an integral part of everyday working life, including within government departments, public bodies and security-critical organisations. However, the exchange of confidential or classified information is subject to specific security requirements. In collaboration with ECOS Technology, OpenTalk’s ECOS SecureConferenceCenter – powered by OpenTalk – enables highly secure digital meetings involving information classified as VS-NfD and EU/NATO RESTRICTED.

When confidential communication requires special protection

Whether it’s inter-agency coordination, internal briefings or discussions on security-critical projects: not all information can be shared via a standard video conferencing platform.

Strict requirements apply to the IT systems used, particularly when dealing with classified information. Organisations must ensure that only authorised persons can access classified information and that communication takes place in an appropriately secure environment.

At the same time, public authorities and companies want to determine for themselves where their data is processed, who has access to it and which technologies are used.

Open source and high security combined

The ECOS SecureConferenceCenter, powered by OpenTalk, is based on OpenTalk’s open-source video conferencing technology. The platform is complemented by ECOS Technology’s security architecture. In conjunction with the BSI-approved ECOS SecureBootStick, the solution can be used for video conferences involving information classified as VS-NfD and EU/NATO RESTRICTED.

The partners contribute different areas of expertise:

OpenTalk provides the video conferencing platform, which was developed in Germany and is GDPR-compliant. Thanks to its open-source nature and the option for on-premises operation, organisations can run their video conferencing environment within their own infrastructure and retain control over their data.

ECOS Technology contributes its expertise in the field of highly secure IT working environments. With the BSI-approved SecureBootStick and the security architecture of the ECOS SecureConferenceCenter powered by OpenTalk, the company creates the technical conditions for secure access to sensitive and classified information.

The result is a solution that combines open video conferencing technology with specialised security mechanisms and is tailored to the requirements of communications requiring a particularly high level of protection.

Digital sovereignty even for sensitive communications

Anyone who regularly works with confidential information must be able to rely on the security of their communication tools. This is not just a matter of encryption or access controls, but also of how independently an organisation can operate its digital infrastructure.

Open-source technologies provide key prerequisites for this: the source code is accessible, the software used can be independently audited, and operations do not have to be carried out via an external provider’s cloud.

Through their partnership, OpenTalk and ECOS Technology are bringing together two technologies developed in Germany. The collaboration demonstrates how the requirements for information security and digital sovereignty can be met through the interplay of open-source software and specialised security solutions.
